Week 35: Spaces of Possibilities
ROM for art and architecture
29-31.08.2024

In 2023-24 I acted as curator in residence at ROM for art and architecture. I curated a three day long “colloquium” for Week 35, the annual interdisciplinary academic festival at ROM. Under the title Mulighetsrom (Spaces of Possibilities) we explored how form, color, and space shape not only our built environments but also the narratives of the future.

The artist, thinker and writer Louwrien Wijers, the artists Ingrid Bjørnaali, Sveinung Rudjord Unneland and Ane Hjort Guttu, chef and artist Egon Hanfstingl, Architects without Borders, phenomenologist Marcus Weisen, activist and architect Armelle Breuil (ACT!), the artists Øystein Aasan, Magnhild Øen Nordahl and Stein Rønning, Vera Wyller (KOSA) and Steffen Håndlykken genereously shared from their practices. We also visited Muralverkstedet and met the artists working there, among others: Irma Salo Jæger.

During the three days we shared together, we discussed how colour, form and space not only are physical manifestations with power to define, but also has speculativem poetic and metaphysical implications. For instance through the question: How does the space accommodate the form, and for whom is the space intended?
